About

VNomy is where the Vietnamese community shares the dishes it actually eats. We’re not a review site and we don’t rank restaurants. We recommend authentic Vietnamese dishes — the phở, bánh mì, and bún bò Huế that Vietnamese people in each city cook, order, and bring their families to. Our recommendations come from the community: the people who grew up with this food, who know what it should taste like, and who can tell when a place gets it right. When we point you to a dish, it’s because our community stands behind it — not because an algorithm scored it. We know good food because we’re from here.

We’re not a review site

Most food sites hand you a list of places to eat, ordered by a score. They check restaurants against a checklist, average out star ratings, and tell you which one came out on top. We don’t do any of that. A score tells you which place ranked highest on a spreadsheet. It doesn’t tell you where the Vietnamese community actually goes on a Tuesday night, or which phở a family drives across town for.

We think that’s the wrong question. The right question isn’t “which restaurant scored best” — it’s “which dish do the people who grew up eating this food actually stand behind?” That’s a different signal, and it’s the one we care about.

Recommendations, not reviews

A review is a verdict. A recommendation is a nudge from someone who knows. When we say a dish is worth your time, it’s because real Vietnamese people — the ones who cook this food at home, order it on a weekday, and bring their families to it — keep pointing to it. We don’t hand out scores or certificates. We just share what the community already trusts.

That’s why you’ll never see a star rating on VNomy. Star ratings average out a lot of noise: one angry review, one paid boost, and the number stops meaning much. A recommendation from people who know the food is a cleaner signal. It says “our community eats here and stands behind it” — not “this place scored well.”

How we know it’s authentic

We don’t run a formal audit or hand out certificates. Authenticity, to us, means the food tastes the way it’s supposed to — the way Vietnamese people remember it. That’s something the community knows better than any checklist. If the people who grew up eating a dish say a place gets it right, that’s our standard. We trust the community’s palate over a scorecard.

From the community, for the community

VNomy is built by and for the Vietnamese community in America. The people who recommend dishes here are the people who grew up with this food — who know what phở should taste like, who can tell when a bánh mì is right, and who want to point you to the real thing. When you find a dish on VNomy, you’re finding something the community already stands behind.
